Safe for kids, nurseries & sensitive spaces
SFP is an eco-friendly company — and we're committed to your family's indoor air quality. That's why we specify solvent-free, zero-VOC paint for children's rooms, play areas, nurseries, and sensitive areas — at no extra charge. It's also good practice for public areas such as hotels and hospitals.
Zero-VOC paint performs. Today's zero-VOC interior paints work as well as regular paints in most finishes and colors — SFP has extensive practical experience with them in commercial, residential, and repaint settings, with very good results.
Paint kids' rooms while they're away. If possible, have children out of the house for 24–48 hours while painting — or at least sleeping in another room. Paint the nursery before the baby is born.
Ventilate well. Overall ventilation of the house is very important to minimize painting's effect on indoor air quality.
Don't be afraid of color. Neutral colors in children's areas are a wasted opportunity for sensory stimulation — bright, colorful rooms and furnishings are a great environment for children to grow up in.
Most families decide to redecorate when they have children — exactly when indoor air quality matters most. Conventional water-based ("latex") paints can contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that cause indoor exposure during painting and drying, and can even be slowly re-released from wallboard over many months. Children still developing their immune systems are most vulnerable.
With a few simple precautions and sensible product choices, parents can stop worrying about the paint and focus on the fun part: choosing the right color.
